Online Lecture Series: Sex and Gender in Public Health and Medicine
An interdisciplinary introduction to gender-sensitive health research
24.09.2025
This new online lecture series, developed by the Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research, will be offered for the first time starting in the winter semester 2025/26.
The lecture series provides an interdisciplinary introduction to the key concepts, issues, and methodological approaches of gender-sensitive health research. It focuses on the interactions between biological sex, social gender, and other dimensions of social inequality in the context of health, illness, and medical care.
Topics covered include key definitions and concepts, the fundamentals of gender medicine and examples thereof, health behaviour over the course of a lifetime, and intersectional perspectives. A broad spectrum of methodological approaches is discussed, ranging from qualitative to quantitative research and statistical modelling in scientific studies. The lecture series is supplemented by critical reflections on gender bias, norm-setting standards, and the implementation of gender considerations in policymaking and health systems.
Target group: The lecture series is aimed at students of all years at the LMU Munich Faculty of Medicine, as well as interested lecturers and members of staff.
Dates: The first lecture will take place on 22 October 2025 online via Zoom, followed by one or two lectures per month on Wednesdays at 5 p.m., continuing until June 2025. See the full program here.
