Research Interest
The main objective of my PhD research is to study the occupational and environmental transmission of antibiotic resistance due to exposure to bacteria found in Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP). Specific aims include (1) to assess carriage of bacterial resistance genes in WWTP workers, in residents living in close proximity to the plants, and in water and air samples; (2) to generate dose-response and geo-spatial exposure models for carriage of resistance genes as affected by proximity to WWTP as point source. Our results will critically improve the current body of knowledge available concerning antibiotic resistance, and will allow formulation of effective measures against it.
